Is Willian the worst or one of the worst Premier League signings in the history of the competition?

There have been some noteworthy names that could be dubbed the worst singing the Premier League has ever seen, even when the transfer is from Premier League to Premier League club – and that’s what we’ve narrowed it down to at The Top Flight for this pick.

From EPL club to EPL, you’d expect players to hit the ground running and have an instant impact on their new respective clubs’ results. To our surprise, this is not always the case and a lot of the time is a mishit.

A few mentions of some of the worst from the past

More from Arsenal

Fernando Torres

We have Fernando Torres who left Liverpool for Chelsea back in 2011. He managed as few as 20 goals and 17 assists in blue.

Compare that to his time at Anfield where he scored 65 and assisted a further 13 in 102 Liverpool games, you’d easily see he was a shadow of his former self.

Another reason why this transfer is such bad business in Premier League history is because he cost £50 million, which was the then British record transfer fee.

Andy Carroll – Another player that was involved at Anfield

Andy Carroll to Liverpool from Newcastle United for a reported sum of £35m – a record-breaking transfer at the time for the former English champions.

There were promising signs but came few and far between. He was never quite the same after his Anfield switch and really has never recovered. At the end of the season and at the age of 32 will be without a club for the second time in his top-flight career.
