Arsenal injury news – Gabriel Martinelli suffers injury reveals Mikel Arteta

Yesterday, Arsenal won the match against Everton which finally broke their Goodison Park hoodoo. In truth, the only goal of the match came quite late, which made the game quite tense. However, it could have been a different story, as Gabriel Martinelli scored a goal early on which was disallowed through a VAR intervention.

Immediately after the goal, Gabriel Martinelli was subbed off as he suffered an injury. It was his sub, Leandro Trossard, who went on to score the winning and only goal of the match. Soon, Martinelli returned to the bench, indicating that actually, his injury wasn’t as serious as it first looked.

However, Mikel Arteta confirmed (according to 90min) that Martinelli suffered a muscle injury. The Spanish boss admitted that Martinelli wasn’t usually the type to suffer from such injuries, so the best course of action was to take him off.

Ahead of the upcoming Champions League fixture against PSV on Wednesday night, the “rapid” forward will undergo scans and medical tests to determine his fitness. Certainly it’s a race against time as the turnaround between the two fixtures is quick. Furthermore, there is the clash against Spurs next weekend to think about.

For precautionary reasons, I have predicted that Arteta doesn’t start Martinelli against PSV. Instead, Leandro Trossard will get the nod. More on that below.
