Chelsea FC striker Diego Costa seems to be winning his fitness race to face Stoke City at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

The Brazilian-turned-Spaniard — who was not able to feature for Spain during the recent international break due to a hamstring injury — is well aware that the Potters are one of the most physical opponents in the Premier League.

Stoke City defenders are expected to ruffle Costa’s feathers during what could be an intense and feral battle, but the striker says he is used to it all.

Having adjusted to the rigors of the English game quite fast, the player has shown that he can handle himself, always playing on the edge — sometimes seemingly a red card waiting to happen.

“I try to give my all for my team and fans. My opponent will do the same so I don’t complain because it’s part of the game.”

He has racked up nine yellow cards, and recently served a three-game suspension as punishment for an alleged stamp on Liverpool’s Emre Can, during the semi-final of the Capital One Cup.

The forward has now admitted that he is a fighter, and he winds up opposition players on purpose. He does realize that he needs to calm down, and claims to be working on improving his temperament.

"“I have been receiving that kind of treatment for a long time, so I will try to improve and not fall into the trap. But sometimes I do try to wind them up. I try to give my all for my team and fans. My opponent will do the same so I don’t complain because it’s part of the game.”-Diego CostaSource: Daily Star"

Costa has scored 19 times since making the switch from Atletico Madrid this season, helping the Blues get and maintain a firm grip at the top of the league standings.

He knows that Chelsea have the title in their hands, but he also acknowledges the fact that they will be facing an immense challenge from here on out.

"“I will keep fighting and try to give my best for the team. I can’t deny I’m competitive, I’m a fighter. That’s how the league is here. There is fight, commitment, teams never stop battling and it’s a competition that demands a lot from a player. That’s why I like it and I’m very happy here.”"

There are 19 other Premier League managers who would absolutely love it if they were in Jose Mourinho’s place right now, but the Portuguese boss’ current position is also one which is precarious. He can’t afford any slip ups, as it would be extra deflating to lose out on the title having led the race from day one.

Costa, though, believes that his manager is experienced enough to guide this talented Chelsea squad past the finish line.

"“Our manager has won different leagues and knows how to manage a situation like this.We all need to dig in and give something extra because we have this title in our hands and we can’t let it slip away.”"
