Chelsea have started the season abysmally. There’s no hiding from the fact that Mauricio Pochettino should be doing better. Although it’s known that he inherited a mess, he was also given financial freedom to sign the players he wanted in the transfer market. None of those signings have prevailed.

Admittedly, Chelsea haven’t been lucky with injuries so far this season. Some of their star players, including some new signings, are on the treatment table, meaning Poch is forced to make do with what he’s got. Regardless, the current crop of players he’s able to operate with should be capable of beating Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, but they didn’t.

Chelsea mandate a “ridiculous offer” to sell Reece James

According to a report from Football Insider, it would take a “ridiculous offer” for Chelsea to part ways with Reece James, who is being monitored by Real Madrid. James, the captain at Chelsea, is one of those players on the treatment table and is currently under contract until 2028.

As a neutral fan, it’s not a surprise to see Reece James carrying an injury. In fact, it’s getting to a point where you expect that and forget he’s even a football player. Therefore, it’s a surprise to see Pochettino hold a player who is never available in such high regard.

But the reason why James is valued so highly and the captain is that he leads by example. There’s no denying that when he plays, he’s the best full-back in the league. He’s certainly Chelsea’s diamond in the rough, and I can understand why fans are anticipating his comeback.

How much do you think Reece James is worth?
