Chelsea FC’s Hazard Implies Mourinho Was Wrong To Sell Kevin de Bruyne

Chelsea FC winger Eden Hazard seems to believe that Jose Mourinho made a mistake when he let Belgian international teammate Kevin de Bruyne leave.

The young midfielder was sold to Wolfsburg last January for £18 million, leaving Chelsea with a profit of £11 million.

Since moving to Germany, de Bruyne has become one of the hottest commodities in European football. Several clubs have been linked to the player, including Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Manchester City. Rumor even has it that Chelsea will try to bring him back next season.

De Bruyne is now the leading star at Wolfsburg, having already scored 14 goals and assisted 23. He is now showing the form that prompted Chelsea to sign him from Genk in 2012.

He did show glimpses whilst in London, but was never allowed a good run of games to really perform. His small transfer fee may have been the reason — according to him.

"“A higher transfer fee would have potentially handed me a different sort of status inside the club. And possibly, handed me more chances.”-Kevin de BruyneSource: Mirror"

Hazard — who plays alongside de Bruyne for Belgium — thinks that his countryman was good enough to be a star at Chelsea, but also noted that there is less pressure at Wolfsburg.

"“He is a great player. Mourinho decided to let him go and not play him.”“It was not my decision, even though I know very well that he could play at Chelsea because he has tremendous qualities.”“I think at Chelsea, you have more pressure than Wolfsburg. It’s a shame he’s gone but he’ll have a successful career.”-Eden HazardSource: Mirror"

Chelsea are leading the race for the Barclays Premier League title, while Wolfsburg trail first-placed Bayern Munich by 10 points. Mourinho may yet be vindicated at the end of the season, but for now, it looks like he has let too much talent escape.

Mohamed Salah has taken Italy by storm, and de Bruyne’s star has risen in Germany. While Salah could prolong his London stay, de Bruyne’s ties have been completely severed, and according to his agent, it could take £50 million to bring him back (although Mourinho would probably never try).

"“Clubs who are ready to bid 30 million euros for Kevin have no sense of reality. A player like Kevin has a market value of some €50 million, €55 million or even €60 million by now.”-Patrick De Koster (Agent)Source: Sport Bild"

With the way things are going, the player’s last transfer fee could represent just a third of his next one. De Bruyne is pure talent, and while he didn’t fit in at Chelsea, some other club may very well reap the benefits in the near future.
