Chelsea FC captain, leader and legend John Terry has finally put pen to paper, extending his Stamford Bridge stay past this season. The club made the announcement via their official website today.

"“Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce that John Terry has signed a new contract, extending his stay until the end of the 2015/16 campaign.”"

Terry has been one of the Blues’ most consistent performers during this campaign, starting in every Premier League fixture. He has now played in 661 games for Chelsea, scoring 63 times, which is quite an accomplishment for a defender.

Prior to signing his new contract, the skipper expressed his desire to remain at Chelsea on several occasions. He has kept on proving his worth, earning himself another year at the club which he has given everything for.

The defender scored a crucial goal against Tottenham earlier this month, helping the Blues lift the Capital One Cup .

They are now six points ahead of second placed Manchester City — last year’s champions — in the race for the Premier League title, and with a few more strong performances, they can bring the coveted trophy home.

Having already won a trophy this term, and finally signing a new contract, Terry should have no distractions on his quest to captain his club to their fourth League title.

"“I’m delighted to have signed an extension to my contract with Chelsea.”“After adding another major trophy to my collection this month I hope myself, the players and manager can continue to bring success to our club.”“Playing for this great club makes me so proud. And as always I would like to thank the fans who have continually supported me.”-John Terry"

Terry — now 34 — has flourished in his last two seasons under Jose Mourinho. After losing his place in the side under Rafa Benitez, he has once again emerged as the best defender in the league.

Mourinho, who can be credited for Terry’s return to form, added that the extension is not a gift, but was earned through hard work.

"“This new contract is not to say “thank you very much”; it is because John continues to perform. He is a top defender. I am happy that he completely deserves this new contract after a season where he has already played 40 matches.”-Jose Mourinho"

By keeping Terry, the Blues are already setting the foundation for next season. They recently tied star midfielder Eden Hazard down to a five-and-a-half-year deal, a move which should keep club performances high for the foreseeable future.

If Terry can keep performing at this level, he will have no problem leading the new generation of Blues to trophy success.
