Chelsea FC: John Terry Will Be Here Next Season, Says Mourinho

John Terry — who recently captained

to a Capital One Cup final win vs Tottenham on Sunday — will be at Stamford Bridge next season, according to his manager Jose Mourinho.

The 34-year-old skipper’s one-year contract will come to an end when the season closes. He has already stated his desire to go on playing for the Blues, and it would seem that the board is going in the same direction.

Mourinho has confirmed that Terry will be a Chelsea player beyond this season, but he is not sure about goalkeeper Petr Cech.

The stopper has seen the lion’s share of appearances go to Belgian Thibaut Courtois, and while he has continued to fulfill his obligations without complaint, he may be tempted to move on this summer.

Mourinho says he will not stand in the player’s way, but it would take a huge fee to prise him away.

"“What I can guarantee is that John will be a Chelsea player next season. It’s because I know what my board tell me, and what the player tells me. There is no doubt that he is going to get his contract. I think terms are agreed, but it is not yet signed.”“I don’t think Petr is a guy to be persuaded. He doesn’t let anyone persuade him. He will make his decision. He’s very mature about making the best decision.”“I will wait, wishing that his decision is to stay. That’s my desire. But I don’t waste my time trying to persuade him, because it’s his decision.”-Jose MourinhoSource: Express"

It would be quite the coup if Chelsea FC could hold on to both these players next season. While Terry has reiterated his willingness to stay, Cech will be considering his options.

They are both still playing at the highest level. Terry is undoubtedly the best center back in the league, seemingly unaffected by father time. Cech on the other hand, would probably be starting at any other club in the world — except for Bayern Munich perhaps.

For now, they are Chelsea players, and will help the club in a bid for their first Premier League title since 2011.

The Blues have led the race from the beginning, and currently sit five points above second placed Manchester City with a game in hand. They have already secured a trophy this season, and are still in the hunt for their first ever treble.

They will resume league action on Wednesday, with a tough away match against West Ham looming. Needing to keep the pressure — so to speak — on City, they should be out to get all three points.
