Chelsea FC Skipper John Terry insists that he is calm, as it relates to his future at the club. Terry — who signed a one-year extension with the Blues at the end of last season — admits that he was a bit worried back then, but he’s relaxed now.

There have been no talks between him and the club, but Terry believes that something will be worked out now that star midfielder Eden Hazard has been signed long term.

The Blues recently signed Hazard to a 5.5 year deal, and the captain knows that this extension was the organization’s main priority.

"“No talks have happened yet between myself and the club. The club know my position. Hopefully I know theirs and it will get done.”“I think we both respect the position — there are a lot more important players. Hazard has just been done and for me, that’s the most important for the club.”“Without them even telling me, I know that’s the first priority for them. Hopefully, they will be knocking on the door soon.”-John TerrySource: Eurosport"

Terry — now 34 — made his senior debut back in 1998, and even now he remains the best defender in the Premier League. He has started every league game this season, hardly putting a foot wrong at the back.

As per Chelsea policy, players over 30 only get one-year extensions. Terry has watched club legends like Didier Drogba, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard leave, but he has remained a constant.

Drogba — who left after winning the Champions League with his famous spot kick — made a return after two seasons. Ashley Cole departed for Roma, whilst Lampard somehow found himself playing for Manchester City, after it was announced that he had signed a contract with MLS Side New York City FC.

Terry has reiterated his desire to stay, and he knows that manager Jose Mourinho is like minded. After speaking with the club, the anxiety of last season no longer exists.

"“I was maybe a little bit nervous. I was edgy. (But) we have had a good chat. I know their position, they know mine.”“I want to stay. Hopefully my performances are showing that and they can keep me.”“I will be happy to get one more year and then see how it goes. I am taking it year by year — I haven’t got much choice.”"

The captain wants to go on playing as long as he can, he has played lots of football this season and last, but he doesn’t believe that he needs a rest.

"“I don’t want it (a rest). I am coming toward the end of my career so it’s important I’m playing as much as I can and stay fit.”"

Chelsea have made several star signings over the last few years, but their toughest task will be finding another Terry. Youngster Kurt Zouma has shown loads of promise, but can he go on to replicate the legend?

The club should hold on to their captain for as long as he can go on playing. It will be a sad day at Chelsea when this lengthy affair comes to an end.
