Liverpool ready to match Real Madrid’s offer for Bayern Munich defender
Liverpool are ready to go toe-to-toe with Real Madrid for world-class defender, David Alaba.
The Liverpool hierarchy are said to have tabled a £9m-a-year contract (€10m) for Bayern Munich’s David Alaba. The defender reached the final six months of his current deal and is now free to talk to any team as he gets ready to become a free agent at the end of this season.
But a transfer to Anfield for the Austrian is far from being completed with Real Madrid offering him the same deal, hoping he will join the La Liga champions over the Premier League champions. The other club said to be in for the soon to be free agent is Juventus.
"Liverpool have made their move to beat Real Madrid to the signing of David Alaba this summer with a lucrative contract offer, according to reports. Bayern Munich had previously been confident of keeping Alaba at the club heading into last summer."

The only problem with the Old Lady’s proposal is that they cannot compete with the Reds and Madrid and are unable to match the £9m-per-year deal the two powerhouses have on the table.
These clubs are said to be the only three in the running for his signature still following five different approaches that came through at the beginning of January – and to no surprise, the Galácticos are leading the Alaba race.
Munich were desperate to hold onto their prized jewel and were confident they could tie him down with an irresistible deal, keeping him in Germany until he retires one day. However, this will not be the case as he runs out his last few months and finishes his last campaign as a Bavarian.
In the past he has mentioned his love Munich and leaving the Allianz Arena is not his first option. But talks between the player’s entourage and the club have broken down. Since the stalemate in negotiations, Bayern Munich have withdrawn their offer and will not come back in with a renewed one.
This is much like the Gini Wijnaldum at Liverpool debacle, who recently rejected the latest offer by the Anfield side. The player’s demands are not being met – no contract extension.
"The Austria international has been a key part of their success over the past decade, winning a host of trophies along the way.Alaba has repeatedly stated his preference to stay at the Allianz Arena, but negotiations over a new deal reached an impasse earlier this season. And the German giants withdrew their offer of a new five-year contract back in November, opening the door to a move away from Bayern. Liverpool and Real Madrid will battle it out for another superstar, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe. A possible move for next summer or the one thereafter.
He has not extended his contract with PSG and talks of an exit has become a prime topic. They are hoping this will all change though now with Mauricio Pochettino recently hired as the manager.
The World Cup-winner will be out of contract in a year from now and Liverpool have become extremely patient when it comes to acquiring their top targets – they will wait till he is a free agent.
Where do you think David Alaba will be next season? The Spanish La Liga with Real Madrid or in the English Premier League with Liverpool.
