Chelsea players to keep an eye on ahead of summer signings
By Adam Bakr
Christian Pulisic
The next player is Christian Pulisic. He’s also in the midst of his first Premier League season after joining the Blues from Borussia Dortmund for 58 million pounds. He can play on either wing and even start as the 10, but Lampard has almost exclusively played him on the left.
It was not a great start to the season for Pulisic, and he was forced to come off the bench or was left out of the squad entirely for a stretch in the early stages. It was turned around with a hat-trick against Burnley on matchday 10 and sparked a good run of form for the young American.
His form faded towards the end, and his season was put on pause after an abductor muscle sidelined him for Chelsea’s last eight league games before the hiatus. He had five goals and two assists in his 16 league games to that point.

The break gave Pulisic time to get healthy, and he is fit to play the remaining games of the season. Similarly to Abraham, a good end to the season can go a long way for his place next season. With Pulisic being on the wing, however, it is less about goals for him and more about his overall play as he continues to adjust to the English game.
Pulisic and Werner both have Bundesliga roots with offensive-minded teams. They are both quick on the ball and are used to interchanging on counter-attacks. Together they can replicate some of the connections they had with their own teammates if Pulisic is to keep his spot upon Werner’s arrival.
