Van Dijk is probably the only defender in the world at the moment that possesses all the qualities he does. A defender with similar attributes of a world-class midfielder is something every team would welcome.

Virgil van Dijk has continued where left off last season. He has been immense for Liverpool. His tackling ability, calmness he brings to the defence, his aerial ability, and leadership qualities further highlights how indispensable he is to Liverpool.

He was better last season than the current season but still, he remains the best centre back in the world. VVD is the best passing defender in the league by far, and not just in short passes but also in searching long balls.

More from The Top Flight

The fact that he has played every minute for Liverpool so far is nothing short of miraculous. Registering 2137 passes in 26 appearances, he is averaging 82.19 passes per game. These numbers are already better compared to last season where he made 38 appearances, averaging 79.92 passes per game.

Overshadowed by Virgil van Dijk, is his CB partner Joe Gomez who has also been in superb form since returning from injury and has been a revelation. Gomez has played 9 games less than Van Dijk and has a higher tackle success percentage of 73% after 17 matches played compared to Van Dijk’s 57% after 26 matches played.

The last 12 matches for Liverpool FC is going to be important and having them both staying fit and injury free will help Liverpool lift the long-awaited EPL Title.
