A sad turn of affairs after the news that Jack Wilshere will no longer play for the Gunners. Why not sign? Where to now? We’ll take him! Are all the sounds you will hear now.

If it wasn’t for the constant threat of having to worry about him being fit – all would be in favour of a Wilshere contract renewal. But as clear as daylight, nothing can be cast in stone for the long-term Gunner, well ex now.

This type of thing is extremely difficult to workout when you have a player destined for greatness and whispered to be the next England captain by previous captain, Steven Gerrard. You want him to work out as the best thing ever, but can’t take the risk with the team more important.

In a time where everything was better than what it’s like now, Jack old boy formed part of a midfield that was arguably up there with the best in the league. When he was at the peak of his power, so was Wenger’s Arsenal.

This restored continuous faith in him [Wilshere] by the manager to stay at the club till the day he retired. This also helped the Gunners believe one day it will all end, and he will have better fortune with game time. Therefore, renewing his contract back in the early days of his Arsenal career was never a problem.

Unfortunately, things chance and people move on

During the last hurdle of Arsene Wenger’s illustrious Gunner career, Wilshere’s contract dispute began. It was an extremely difficult time for him, as the club gave him options which obviously weren’t in his favour.

This continued into January’s winter window, where things became a bit transparent for all watching in. It was perceivable Jack was not going to be bullied into a contract, committing him to the club for several years and then get paid as he plays.

No player with an injury history such as the midfielder would sign a contract so bizarre. Especially at his age. Jack Wilshere is at a pivotal age in his career, the next decision after the one made not to renew his Emirates stay – must be the smartest one he’s ever had to make.

More from Arsenal

Where for art thy go the Wilshere yo…

Many possible suitors for the midfielder. After the news of him leaving – the transfer links came in thick and fast. This will be a tough call to make, thinking where Jack will end up at the end of the beanstalk.

Does he venture far from England and never look back? Or will he setup camp around the corner, not far from where he’s been for the past 17 years? The favour in which reports shift is for an England stay. However, will Jack want to play against his beloved Arsenal? This could be a strong influence in his decision.

Wolves and West Ham appear to show a big interest in him [Wilshere]. West Ham have the money apparently, and Wolves have the ambition no doubt. The latter’s project is something I’m overly excited to see in the Premier League.

Add Wilshere’s EPL experience and he could be the perfect fit for the Wolves. I’m steadily in favour of the move to Wolves over West Ham. London do have that new man at the helm, who look set to upset the league.

Another transfer to keep a close eye on.
