Sean has already started dicing and chopping his successful Burnley squad who helped him achieved the European dream.

With Scott Arfield already having departed for Rangers, Burnley also have to be conscious of replacing players who go the other way in the transfer window.

More from The Top Flight

Nick Pope has been excellent this season. Only his lack of international experience prevents him being England’s World Cup ‘keeper. But Burnley’s Player of the Season is standing in for another England international goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

It will be hard to keep both happy when they both so clearly have real possibilities of international action when playing regularly. So Burnley might need to look at someone who would be happy as a backup.

Current stalwart Ben Mee is stalling on resigning his contract. That could mean more than one signing at centre-back. Talk is of Ryan Shawcross for around £10m, who has experience in playing the system Dyche plays, has leadership and Premier League knowhow.

My concern is that I would play Dawson, Mee and Tarkowski ahead of him. I can’t see him being 4th choice centre back. My feeling is that he’s more likely to pull on the Claret & Blue for West Ham than Burnley.

Ashley Barnes has really stepped up to the plate recently with Chris Wood. But with both injured, a lack of depth is highlighted, especially with talks of Sam Vokes leaving too. Danny Ings might see a return to Burnley as a backwards step.

But he could certainly do worse for his career playing second fiddle at Liverpool. As ridiculous as it would seem to pillage WBA’s stores any more, Salomon Rondon might also come into the fold as someone who has experience in Europe as well as the EPL.
