The headline-grabbing signing would be Yaya Toure, following his contract expiring at Man City. Everton, Wolves and Huddersfield are also reportedly interested in the midfielder.

None of those teams have European football, so Burnley could arguably be considered front-runners. Yaya would bring experience, leadership and a calming influence to the midfield. His huge wage demands could be the only barrier to stopping this signing.

With WBA officially being relegated, they stand ready to be torn apart. A triple transfer could take place between them and the Clarets. Winger Matt Phillips could end Burnley’s search for a Premier League standard wide man, with Nkoudou and Lennon not having cut it so far in their short spell at the Turf.

Local lads Jay Rodriguez and Craig Dawson are also probables to strengthen at both ends of the pitch. Rodriguez was a fan favourite having come through the Burnley academy. He’s been impressive enough to get into the England National Squad since leaving the Clarets. Many fans now think it’s time for him to come home.

Dawson has been on Dyche’s radar before, but the Baggies were unwilling to do business. Dawson has been consistently solid in defence, dangerous from set-pieces and has vast experience at playing out of position at right-back.

They’re all valuable things to have on your CV, but that last one might be especially valuable to Sean Dyche, who presently only has a past his sell-by-date Phil Bardsley as cover at right-back.

Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan is apparently on his way to Burnley for £6m, after an excellent season for the Robins including a memorable goal against Chelsea.
