Alexis Sanchez is yet to sign a new contract at Arsenal and has now decided to leave the club in the summer.

Arsenal have been trying to tie Alexis Sanchez to a new long-term deal for a while now. However, the struggle is set to end after Sanchez decided to quit the club in the summer, according to The Sun.

Arsenal suffered an embarrassing 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday. The Gunners dressing room was heated in the aftermath of the game, with Sanchez being just one player to show his frustration at his flopping teammates.

The 28-year-old is clearly frustrated with the situation at the club. It feels like things are coming to a crossroads at the Emirates, with the futures of manager Arsene Wenger and Mesut Ozil also in focus right now.

But it seems the first piece to make a move will now be Sanchez. The frustration is extending beyond the players now, too, with the whole Gunners fan base being at boiling point. Clearly, changes are desperately needed.

Although, Sanchez was not necessarily one of those changes that must happen. Sanchez is a player the club need to build around. But the uncertainty at the club is not helping matters. The club continually failing in the same way season after season is not helping matters.

Sanchez could get into almost any starting XI around in Europe – perhaps Barcelona being the one and only exception. So it’s easy to see why the forward looks around and figures he can find a better solution elsewhere. Find a team that are ready to win right now.

After this season, Arsenal are going to be in one of two places. Either Wenger stays and things continue as they are right now. Or Wenger goes and the club are going to be rebuilding in a new image and a new direction.

Sanchez likely doesn’t want to hang around for either of those scenarios. A move to Juventus or Bayern Munich would see him in a real hunt for league titles immediately. Whilst any move to Real Madrid, Chelsea or Manchester City would see him in with a better chance for major trophies, too.

And Sanchez is a starter for any of those teams right now. So why wait around? Arsenal need to give top players a reason to sign and their current top players a reason to stay. Right now, there is very little for Sanchez to stay for.

So if, as looks likely, he leaves for another team, then the club will only have themselves to blame.
