Antoine Griezmann could sign with Manchester United in the summer. However, the Frenchman has one condition for the Red Devils to meet if he is to join the club.

Manchester United want to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid. Griezmann has an £85 million release clause that the Red Devils are willing to meet. The club are also willing to pay the Frenchman £300,000 a week to join the club.

For his part, Griezmann seems keen on the move, too. The striker idolizes David Beckham and would love to join the club and wear the famous Manchester United number 7 shirt. However, there is one catch, according to The Sun.

Griezmann is willing to join, but only if United are playing in the Champions League next season. Griezmann has told his representatives that medals, not money, is his ambition. No Champions League, no deal.

Which is both good news and bad news for United. Good because Griezmann clearly has the best of intentions and would be coming to the club for the right reasons. But bad news because United currently sit in 6th place in the Premier League standings.

More from The Top Flight

Fortunately, the Red Devils are only two points outside of the top four places. However, the competition for the four spots is extremely intense. United have been in good form recently and are currently on a 14-game unbeaten run in the league. But despite that, they’re still 6th.

Which shows you the task ahead of United. Performances have stuttered a little recently, but the team have soldiered through to remain unbeaten. There are six teams vying for four places at the moment, and one of those places looks all tied up.

Chelsea look set to be champions, but they will definitely finish in the top four without question. So that leaves five teams fighting over three spots. Two will be disappointed. It’s going to be nail biting right until the end, and this is what United’s chances of signing Antoine Griezmann hang on.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to Jose Mourinho and the Manchester United board. Top players should only want to play in the best competitions anyway. Even when United and Griezmann were flirting in the press recently, the club needed to stay focused.

It should have been obvious that if Griezmann is the player and the winner everybody thinks he is, then he is going to want to do both. Not just play. So now it’s just down to United. Antoine Griezmann could be the club’s new number seven, but only if you qualify for the Champions League.

No pressure.
