Manchester United are currently being continuously linked with Antoine Griezmann. But United fans have bigger issues on their plate than this rumor mill gossip.

Antoine Griezmann has Manchester United fans excited at present, with the Frenchman being continuously linked with a move to Old Trafford. It seems barely a day goes by without United and Griezmann being paired in some form.

Whether it’s Griezmann’s brother and his Twitter talk or stories about Griezmann’s friendship with Paul Pogba, it’s constant right now. But why get so excited? Atletico Madrid are not about to sell their star in January.

And nobody knows who else might be in the queue to sign the striker either now or come the summer. Plus, United have bigger fish to fry this season. Big-name transfers like this one are for the summer.

United need to finish in a Champions League place if they want to continue making signings like this in the future. United don’t want to be that club that continually overpays because they aren’t in Europe. Players coming purely for money.

United are a huge club, but the lure of the Red Devils will diminish over time if they merely tread water around 5th spot in the Premier League. Just look at Liverpool. United aren’t immune from that. Of course, it’s impossible to stop speculation, but United clearly have bigger concerns for now.

Besides, the only thing we really know is that Manchester United would like to sign Griezmann – who wouldn’t? Other than that, Pogba and Griezmann’s friendship is a situation seen the world over. Players have friends. Yes. They all do. They don’t all play together.

Meanwhile, Griezmann’s brother seems to just be having fun with the situation. Either that or he’s attempting to drive up the interest – and money – for his brother. The only problem with that is that some fans can take a tweet far too seriously these days.

Who knows where Griezmann will ultimately end up. It could well be Old Trafford. Why not? United are still a massive club to represent and play for. But, long-term, there’s only so long a big club can go on being a yo-yo team between the Champions League and Europa League.

Missing out on the top four this season is not going to help the club’s Griezmann cause. No matter how many heart emojis Pogba sends to his French teammate. Griezmann is going to have a lot of suitors and the summer is still so far away right now.

The Frenchman has emerged in recent seasons as one of the world’s best. A versatile player who can either play in a wide position – where he played regularly a few years back – as a number 10 or, where he has shined most recently, as a striker.

As a 25-year-old, too, Griezmann still has his best years ahead of him. It’s looking increasingly likely that those years will not be spent at Atletico Madrid. And Where Griezmann does land next will probably be the hottest topic of the summer transfer window. But that is for the summer transfer window.

Griezmann’s future is not going to be decided this month or even next month. So when the summer rolls around, and United can actually potentially sign the Frenchman, that will be the time to get overly excited.

Hopefully Jose Mourinho’s men are back in the Champions League at that point too. But until then, Manchester United have more than enough on their plate in the Premier League.

Forget about Antoine Griezmann.
