West Ham United have been in negotiations with Brentford for striker Scott Hogan. During the talks, the Championship side have made one particularly outlandish request.

West Ham United hope to complete a deal to sign Scott Hogan from Brentford on transfer deadline day. The Hammers have been pretty active during the mid-season window and hope a deal for Hogan will be completed before the window closes.

Slaven Bilic is looking for a striker to come in and compete with, and at times play alongside, Andy Carroll. Hogan seems to be that guy, and negotiations are now at an advanced stage. Although, negotiations have not been easy for the Premier League outfit.

Present talks suggest Brentford would receive a fee of around £13.5 million for their star striker, according to The Sun. £9.5 milion would be paid upfront, with appearance-based add-ons of £3 million to come later. But that’s only £12.5 million. What about the final £1 million?

Well, that add-on, as requested by Brentford, would come when West Ham win the Premier League! Naturally. What else would you expect? You don’t ask for an extra £1 million when Hogan scores 20 or 30 goals for his new club. Or maybe even if the Hammers qualify for Europe.

More from The Top Flight

Oh, no. You want to make sure you actually get the million, right? So what you do is you agree to pick it up when West Ham are crowned Premier League champions. Of course. In hindsight, it’s so obvious.

Now, anything can happen in England’s top flight, as Leicester City showed last season. But It’s probably fair to say that the Bees can wave goodbye to that extra £1 million if the deal does go ahead.

They could probably request £5 or £6 million if the Hammers won the league and West Ham would be safe. Why would you ask for that add-on clause anyway? It’s an outrageous request by Brentford. Even if it was West Ham who wanted it, you would refuse.

Anyway, either way, talks will continue on deadline day. But time is running out with the window about to close. Hogan is currently Brentford’s top scorer and has notched 14 goals in the Championship so far this season.

The 24-year-old is being eyed by a number of clubs on transfer deadline day. Aston Villa are another club who have been linked and remain in contention. So if West Ham want to secure Hogan’s signature, then the Hammers board need to move swiftly before the striker moves elsewhere. Take no chances.

Because let’s face it, you just can’t be sure what Brentford might be asking of other clubs in the race.
