Following the recent international break for the Euro 2016 qualifiers, Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko may have dropped some hints over the future of his footballing prospects.

In a recent interview Sissoko was questioned on why his national career appears to be in stagnation, and seemingly lackluster in comparison to fellow teammates who can be deployed in the same position. In regards to that, the Frenchman had this to say:

"“Look at those who play in my position: Blaise Matudi who did extraordinary things for PSG, Paul Pogba who is wonderful for Juventus, Yohan Cabaye who has just signed for Crystal Palace … Compared to me, they all play in big clubs.”"

It seems that Moussa believes the inferiority of Newcastle United when compared to the likes of PSG and Juventus is the reason why he fails to steal the limelight for Les Bleus, and a bigger club could potentially raise his status in order to offer more serious competiton for the likes of Matudi and Pogba.

It’s no secret that Newcastle’s recent campaigns in the top flight of English football have been severely underwhelming, having narrowly avoided relegation last year and rapidly falling from European contention the campaign before that.

But why the mention of  Crystal Palace as a ‘big’ club compared to where Sissoko is now? Is that to say Crystal Palace is a bigger club than Newcastle?

Well, suffice to say, Newcastle fans probably shouldn’t get riled up about this, as the midfielder was most likely just referring to PSG again, where Cabaye was before making the switch back to England.

Palace have began this year’s Premier League campaign in an astounding fashion, with the Eagles perched 2nd in the table after 4 games. However, as Sissoko referenced Cabaye as having ‘just signed‘ for the South London outfit from PSG, it seems more plausible that the French champions are identified by Sissoko as the bigger club than Newcastle, rather than the club he is currently at.

Regardless of what was meant by this, statements such as these – when put into circulation by the media – quickly rouse suspicion and conjecture. Which makes you wonder if, indeed, Sissoko is looking for the exit hatch out of Newcastle United for an allegedly bigger club.

Sissoko has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the previous 2 transfer windows, but no such move ever solidified.

On the final day of the 2014/15 season, however, when Newcastle secured safety at the expense of Hull, Sissoko was seen on Sky Sports visibly pointing at the Newcastle United badge and grinning, as if to express loyalty and a desire to stay.

Maybe Sissoko wants to leave for a better chance to represent France, or perhaps he is perfectly content at Newcastle, there isn’t too much to go by other than echoed transfer rumours and picking apart words spoke in interviews.

But one thing that I can say with a sufficient amount of confidence is that the Frenchman doesn’t rank Crystal Palace as a bigger club than Newcastle, his words have simply been contorted by the media.
