One of the biggest contributors to Newcastle’s successful last season in the Premier League came from their midfield star Bruno Guimaraes. Since his arrival in the North-East of England, he’s established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. His emergence into a star player at St. James’ Park has led Bruno Guimaraes to be heavily linked to the likes of Real Madrid. As The Top Flight had covered, the Brazilian was recently linked to Liverpool late in the transfer window. Despite all this talk around Bruno, he is expected to stay long-term in Newcastle.

In a recent YouTube transfer video, Fabrizio Romano spoke about Bruno Guimaraes’ situation at Newcastle United. Romano states Guimaraes was subject to strong interest this summer from clubs, but the Toons have always deemed the player untouchable. New contract talks between Newcastle and Bruno Guiamares started earlier this summer but had worryingly gone nowhere for months. Now, Romano is reporting that a new contract is close to being agreed. It is reportedly just the “final details” on the contract offer that need to be worked out, and an agreement can be described as “imminent.”

Bruno Guimaraes still has plenty of time left on his current contract, which does not expire until 2026. Regardless, given the significant interest in Bruno Guimaraes from top clubs and Champions League football on the menu for the Magpies, he was bound to look for a higher salary. The Rio de Janeiro-born midfielder joined Newcastle in January of 2022 from Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais for a fee worth up to £40m. Since this move, Bruno Guimaraes has racked up 16 goal contributions in 61 appearances for Newcastle.

The Toons’ Champions League group sees them face Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain. To compete in such a talented group requires talented players, which is why ensuring the long-term commitment of someone such as Bruno Guimaraes was a top priority for the club.
