The fee paid is not yet know but it is unlikely to have made a major dent in the club’s transfer bank. Harry Lewis has already become a member of the England U-18 National Team and will look to continue in his development when he arrives on the South Coast.
Talking to Southampton’s official website following his contract signing with the Saints, the young goalkeeper expressed his gratitude towards both his new club as well as his home-town side Shrewsbury Town.
"“I think it was a no-brainer really for me to make this move. I’ve been at Shrewsbury since I was eight and it is my hometown club. I’m always going to be close to them but when an opportunity like this comes around you don’t say no. I’m here to get better as a footballer and get as many chances as I can. That’s the most important thing for me.”"
The academy manager Matt Hale was present for the signing and spoke about how thrilled he was to have the opportunity to add Harry Lewis to the Saints youth setup.
"“He’s got a good background and with the staff and the environment we’ve got here, he’s got every opportunity to fulfill the potential we’ve seen in him. The caliber which Harry comes with provides us with an exciting time ahead. He has played for England and that’s our benchmark of where we need our young players to be now.”"
