All Three Premier League Newcomers Will Survive the Upcoming Season

Only twice since the Premier League’s inception in 1992 has all three promoted clubs survived an entire season. Twice in 23 seasons. This number shows how difficult it is to survive as a newcomer in the world’s toughest league.

More from AFC Bournemouth

Seven times two of the newly promoted teams have been relegated back to the English Championship. Only once has all three promoted sides been relegated in the same season while the other thirteen times have seen two of the three clubs avoid relegation.

While two teams remaining in the Premier League after being promoted is all well and good, the misfortune for the third squad is great. However, this season promises to be a good one for the newly promoted clubs.

Watford, AFC Bournemouth and Norwich City all seem destined for survival this season thanks to their forward thinking managers and boards. Starting off the list will be the newly crowned English Championship Champions AFC Bournemouth.

While winning promotion was great news for AFC Bournemouth, the Cherries did not just want to win promotion. A club that had never won a major title or played in the Premier League scratched off both bucket list items when they won the Championship on the final day.

The club have now turned their attention to the Premier League. With the backing of the club’s unsung chairman, Bournemouth look to become a major player in the Premier League’s closely contested midtable.

Leading the Championship until the final matchday, Watford FC will look to avenge their final matchday loss of the title with a good performance in the Premier League. Much like Leicester City, Watford come into the Premier League with an experienced side.

Most of the starters from last season were over the age of 25, with many in their 30’s. With the amount of experience avaliable and a couple quality signings over the upcoming transfer window, Watford look to be in a similar position as Leicester City a year ago.

The Hornets will also be looking for continued leadership and form from top player Troy Deeney. Since joining Watford in 2010, Deeney has scored 77 goals for the Hornets. Watford’s Premier League success will depend on Deeney retaining his Championship form.

The final side to join the Premier League is Norwich City. Sitting seventh in January, Norwich took a chance. The club hired Alex Neil following the resignation of Neil Adams as the clubs manager.

Coming from the Scottish Premiership, Neil was an unknown to many English fans. At only 33-years of age, Neil was seen a risk by many. Turns out, the risk was worth the reward as Neil led Norwich to a third placed finish in the table.

Defeating Ipswich Town and Middlebrough in the playoffs, Neil now finds himself in charge of a Premier League club. Being the youngest Premier League manager, Alex Neil has some work to do. However, his free-flowing style has led Norwich City to become a favorite in the relegation battle.

While two sides bring youth and want to the Premier League, Watford brings its players experience. If all manages to go well during the onset of the season, expect AFC Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich City to finish above the 18th position in next season’s final table.
