Arsenal legend Tony Adams believes that Oleksandr Zinchenko should be benched against Manchester City tonight.

According to the latest report from The Sun, Arsenal legend Tony Adams has had his say on who he thinks Arsenal should start in their match against Manchester City. Adams believes that Takehiro Tomiyasu should start ahead of Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back.

We are expecting team news within the next hour but the chances of this happening are absolutely minimal. Mikel Arteta is already forced to make a change to the starting lineup, with Thomas Partey ruled out within the last hour through an injury he picked up in training.

Tomiyasu is a great player and Adams’ reasoning makes sense. He sees Tomiyasu as a better option to isolate Riyad Mahrez out wide, who we know likes to cut inside and is a big goal threat.

Zinchenko is a world-class player but for reasons which Manchester City know too well. He likes to adapt his position to be an inverted full back, essentially playing as a midfielder when in possession.

Therefore, he is probably not Arteta’s best bet to defend against the rampant City attack. However, I don’t see the Arsenal boss lining up in a defensive manner. He will stick to what’s worked best so far this season, or as much as he can do anyway.

Tomiyasu does provide a good alternative from the bench though. He has often come on as a sub in matches this season to see the game through. I don’t see this changing against City. If Mahrez proves to be too much of a threat against Zinny, then of course this change will be made.
