#2 – Houssem Aouar (Olympique Lyonnais) An Old Arsenal Transfer Target

Another Frenchman lighting up the French League is Houssem Aouar from Lyon. The 24-year-old is one of the most coveted goalscoring number 8s in Europe.

Aouar is considered to be one of the most outstanding progressors of the ball as well. For a number 8, he creates chances like a number 10, or rather like an inverted winger.

Despite his club having yet another underwhelming season, the former academy graduate has stood out and continues to be the shining light in an otherwise disrupted Lyon side.

In the 21/22 season, he enjoyed an 87% pass completion rate in Ligue 1, UEFA Champions League, and Europa League.

His defensive contributions haven’t gone unnoticed already averaging 1.88 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per 90 minutes. Aouar’s movement on and off the ball is consistent, both offensively and defensively.

He had previously agreed to terms with Arsenal, however, talks between club representatives broke down leading to Lyon holding onto him for another year.

This year is a bit different with AS Roma said to be interested. Jose Mourinho has certainly taken notice of the Frenchman and a move could be on the cards, especially with Sergio Olivera on his way out.

For a fee as low as €20 million, Aouar could represent some smart transfer business Roma needs to finally compete with the top Italian clubs in the Serie A, as they look to build on a trophy-winning campaign.

Why are there no longer any Premier League clubs in for the attacking midfielder? They should be all over a Houssem Aouar transfer.
