#3 – Alejandro Grimaldo (S.L Benfica)

The Spanish fullback has been nothing short of a revelation ever since joining the Portuguese outfit in 2016. Grimaldo came through the Barcelona academy but has since been a consistent figure at Benfica.

Often compared by many to the great Jordi Alba, one attribute that Grimaldo may not boast of his is Alba’s electric pace to progress whenever his team is in possession.

Grimaldo averaged 5.11 progressive passes per 90 for his club across all competitions last season, with a pass accuracy of 79.3%. He averaged 1.04 through passes per 90 in the league which was amongst the highest in the league last season.

Defensively, he averaged 2.09 tackles, 2.41 interceptions, and 2.09 blocks per game. He averaged 7.24 defensive duels per 90 and won 60% of the duels that he completed in the league last campaign.

Grimaldo is one such fullback who has pace with the ball at his feet and is capable of carrying it over long distances into attacking spaces.

Arsenal are reportedly the frontrunners for the Spanish international’s transfer with an offer worth €15 million on the table. With Kieran Tierney’s injury record a concern, the Gunners would be looking to bolster their squad options.
