Does Brentford really have a chance to cause an upset?

Brentford have backed up their excellent results with consistently impressive underlying metrics  – their xGC of 7.99 betters that of Chelsea’s 8.57, albeit, with a relatively easier opening schedule of games.

They’ve racked up a fairly strong xG of 10 compared to 11.76 for Chelsea – suggesting that they’re both creating ‘good’ quality chances as well as denying their opponents the same – incredible early numbers for a team with their limited resources.

The 3 at the back system used by Brentford is, incidentally, also an often-used tactical approach to counter a 3 at-the-back system operating opponent like Chelsea, another facet that might encourage them.
