Can Brentford pull off another shocking result against Premier League leaders Chelsea?
Discussing the game between Brentford and Chelsea
The industrious 3-man midfield unit of Brentford might fancy their chances of outnumbering, or at least causing plenty of hassle for Chelsea’s midfield double pivot.
If Mason Mount does start as is expected, then I can see him having to work hard off the ball and come deeper to counter Brentfords numerical advantage in the middle of the park thus dampening Chelsea’s own final-third presence.
If, however, Brentford does manage to wrestle control of the game from Chelsea in this area of the pitch, they might fancy themselves to have a real go at the Blues. In Toney and Mbeumo, they have themselves a menacing front 2 who possess plenty of pressing energy and pace to give any defence trouble.
If Chelsea seize control and work to break down the well-drilled Bees’ defence, the raw pace of the dynamic front 2 running in behind will be their commonest out-ball and has the potential to really hurt the Chelsea defence. Brentford, it would appear, certainly do have the weapons to do some damage this weekend.
On paper, it’d seem that a title-aspiring club that’s been producing the kind of results that Chelsea has might enjoy a comfortable afternoon against a team that just won promotion via the playoffs.
However, Brentford are a tricky proposition and the Blues are expected to have a difficult game on their hands here.
They’ll have to be at their very best to take all 3 points – another lax showing would leave the door open for the surprise package of the season to potentially claim their biggest scalp yet!
