Rui Patricio has made his name as one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Premier League as well as Europe.
Since moving over from Sporting, he has made 112 starts for Wolves in the EPL. He has been a mainstay for Wolves since the move and he will surely be missed in the coming seasons.
For Roma, Jose Mourinho is getting a proven Goalkeeper at the highest level. He is surely well aware of Rui Patricio’s quality and that is no doubt why he is hoping to bring him over to Italy.
Patricio may very well be looking to challenge himself in a different country as he moves into his age of 33 years old. He will most likely have quite a few years left in the tank at the highest level as he looks to replace Pau Lopez.
Lopez has been linked with a move to Ligue 1 side, Marseille. Reports have also stated that Barcelona have enquired about the Spanish goalkeeper.
How will Rui Patricio leaving affect Wolves?
If this transfer does actually go through, it will definitely affect Wolves in the short term. As previously discussed, Patricio has been a mainstay in between the sticks for the last 3 years.
His quality and consistency will be sorely missed. On the other hand, Wolves seem to be in a state of flux at the moment. They are officially welcoming in a new manager in Bruno Lage.
At the same time, some of their more important players may be leaving the club this summer as both Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho are linked with moves away, along with Rui Patricio.
Bringing in a slightly younger Goalkeeper such as Jose Sa could be a quality move for Wolves as they look to turn over a new leaf.
