What a ride it has been for Chelsea fans this season. It has been one season full of highs and lows, but the lows really don’t matter right now.

The Blues have won the Champions League this season, defeating Manchester City 1-0 in a near-perfect performance, particularly in the defense.

But, the good news does not end here for the Chelsea fans. According to Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian, Chelsea’s board and Thomas Tuchel will sit down in a few days and discuss a contract extension for the German tactician.

Tuchel’s current contract expires in June 2022, as he was given an 18-month contract in January.

The German’s new contract will run till June of 2023, with an option to extend it for another season.

Fabrizio Romano also tweeted it out on Sunday.

Tuchel has revolutionized Chelsea’s defense, along with their season

Thomas Tuchel deserves this contract extension. There have been so many players that The Blues have bought, but Tuchel was the best signing for them in reality.

He changed their fortunes. Chelsea, with all the attacking prowess that it contained, instead became an amazing defensive team.

In 30 games under Tuchel, Chelsea conceded only 16 goals. Out of the 43 goals that Chelsea conceded during the season in all competition, ONLY 16 of them came under Tuchel.

Tuchel was never really known for his defensive tactics, but somehow,  he changed Chelsea so much in just a few months. All his previous stints at clubs have been high octane pressing with attacking football, scoring goals left right and center.

More from Chelsea

But, somehow, with the team from London, it’s the exact opposite. They do what’s supposed to be done in the attack. They defend superbly, and they get the job done.

Chelsea is almost an unbeatable force on their best day, and Tuchel has a big hand in making sure that happened. He took Antonio Rudiger — a guy who was isolated and wasn’t playing at all under Frank Lampard — and turned him into one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs.

The German defender started only four games in the Premier League before Tuchel took over.

The Blues now need a consistent finisher, and I can see this team becoming something no team would want to face. That’s really it. Their defense is sorted, their midfield is sorted. They just need to sort out the attack. When that happens, they can start competing for the Premier League title as well.

Tuchel has officially turned this team into the cream of the crop, and he did it by helping them win the trophy that only the Elites get to hold.

If I told you back in mid-January, that Chelsea would win the Champions League, you probably wouldn’t have believed me. But they did, and they have Tuchel to thank for it. He deserves this contract extension.
