Georginio Wijnaldum will join Barcelona in the summer and after the Euros concludes, as per reports. To make the move possible the player has agreed to take a low salary.

Gini, who recently bid farewell to the Liverpool fans, becomes a free agent when his contract expires in June. Since the news that he was not extending his stay, or the club not wanting to renew his deal, Barcelona became a prime destination – and was the only one for a long period.

Just before all the European leagues wrapped up their business on the pitch, German giants Bayern Munich stepped in and started having discussions with the player’s agent. But this was to no avail, as it is all but confirmed that Wijnaldum will join Barcelona.

On Tuesday, his agent was pictured in Spain, finalising his deal with the club. The deal on the table is said to be a four-year contract with a drop in salary expected.

Ronald Koeman appears to be staying at Barcelona

More from Liverpool FC

The latest news coming out of Camp Nou supports a Gini transfer. The player became more interested in joining Barca when Ronald Koeman was named the manager last summer.

The situation grew a bit unclear following an average first season in charge for the former Netherlands manager. But it now appears Koeman’s position is still intact and he might even be the manager at the Calatan club longer than first anticipated.

Liverpool lost a massive figure in the middle of the park in Gini and Barcelona have made another smart move in their road to recovery. Sergio Aguero will also join on a free with the club waiting for Memphis Depay to make his decision.

Georginio Wijnaldum will also feel right at home as he slots in alongside his countryman, Frenkie de Jong. There is still a lot more to come from this story, taking into account his final message to the Liverpool fans.

Once he elaborates more on his closing-day speech, we will only then uncover his real reasons for leaving Anfield, as we are all well aware he didn’t want to leave but felt it was the only option.
