Former Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard has had a torrid time at Real Madrid. His dream move, as he’s said many times — was ruined by injuries, one after the other.

In two seasons combined, Eden Hazard played a total of 43 games (31 starts, 20 in the first and 11 in the second) and scored just five goals.

According to El Chiringuito’s Edu Aguirre, Hazard is unhappy at Real Madrid and wants to go back to his old club next season.

Why Chelsea won’t (or shouldn’t) sign Hazard back next season

Going back to old clubs is something that many players have done in the past. The first one that comes to mind is Kaka, who left Milan for Real Madrid, but joined Milan after three unsuccessful years at Real Madrid hampered with injuries and struggle for game time.

It helps the player get a fresh start with stints at the club they’ve been successful at, and gives them a familiar feeling, and a coming back home sort of feeling, in a way.

I think that’s the same Hazard would be hoping to go for, should he leave the club.

The question is, if Hazard’s agent actually does offer the player to Chelsea, should the club sign him back?

The answer is no. At least, in my opinion.

More from Chelsea

Of course, I could be proved wrong. But, I just don’t see Hazard doing well at Chelsea. And even if he gets game time and improves slightly, that’ll be at the cost of the youngsters not getting as much game-time as they should.

The second reason is financial. It depends on the transfer fees and salary quite a bit. Obviously, a player of Hazard’s stature, even at his low point, would demand a significant wage.

Of course, it won’t be as much as he has currently or anything like that, but still, giving away a good chunk of money for a player whose career has gone south since getting his dream move is something that you don’t really want to do.

Would Chelsea really go for a Hazard whose career has been hindered by injuries in these last two seasons? I don’t think so. There’s a difference between Hazard wanting to go back and Chelsea wanting to sign him back.

It’s a very unfortunate situation for the Belgian, but I don’t really think Chelsea would want to sign him, after the whole rebuild they went through this season, with the signing of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, among others.

Thomas Tuchel would be looking to find the best versions of these players next season.

The team has been playing well under Thomas Tuchel and while the German coach would probably want to make a few signings, Hazard probably isn’t going to be on that list.

It would make sense from an emotional point of view, though: I can say that much. Hazard moving back to Chelsea and helping the team compete for the Premier League title, among other trophies.

But, with decisions like this, you have to think about everything. You have to take everything into account. And if you ask me, bringing Hazard back to Chelsea won’t be very good for the club, which is why I don’t think they’d even consider it.
