Liverpool: Game vs Man United crucial in many ways
There have been many articles that have told you the same line that I’m going to say now: Liverpool have had a horrible season, by their standards. But, it’s still not over for them.
Liverpool won’t win any trophies this season. It’s impossible for them to do that. But, they’re still in the race for the top four spots in the Premier League table and truth be told, they kind of need that to work in their favour.
Is injuries the only reason why Liverpool have had to struggle this season?
Liverpool have had a very unfortunate season full of injuries and form dips. In almost every game, something has been lacking. Most of the time it’s the defense, but sometimes it is also the attack.

They used to be this free-scoring side that could score two to three goals in 10 minutes, just like that. That’s something that has been missing from this season’s Liverpool, they’ve scored 55 goals in 33 league games. Last season they had 85, but now the defenses have figured out a way to control the attack to an extent. Production from some of the other players has also gone down.
Getting a win over Manchester United, however, would make things so much better from the point of view of the morale of the players. Liverpool are coming off of two consecutive draws (one against Leeds and the other against Newcastle) at a very crucial time of the season. The results of these games will decide where they play next season. It can prove to be crucial in deciding whether they play in the Champions League.
Or, it won’t even matter, we don’t know. Because even if Liverpool win all their remaining games, they still depend on other teams to slip up for them to move up the rankings. But, this win against Manchester United could give them the motivation to keep going. It’ll make them determined to keep fighting for the top four spots, even though it might ultimately mean nothing.
They owe it to the fans that are not present for the time being at Anfield. They owe it to the coach, to the injured players and to themselves. Jurgen Klopp is aware of the importance of the game, and they need to try to make sure they get the three points. But yes, even then, it may not be enough. That’s just the way it is. They just can’t give up. That’s not the Liverpool way.
