David Moyes’ West Ham are continuing to stay ahead of the pack in the race for Champions League football following their recent victory over Leicester City – Jesse Lingard once again at the forefront.

Jesse Lingard’s second brace for the Hammers coupled with Jarrod Bowen’s early second-half goal helped their side to a nail-biting victory over Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes.

The visitors came inches away from stealing a point with the last touch of the game but that final attempt went begging and the final score read 3-2 to the East Londoners.

Leicester were not second best by a long shot but the Hammers efficiency in front of goal in the right moments of the match was the difference between the pair and the real reason they took all three points.

Lingard’s pair of goals were scored in the first half and only 15 minutes apart from each other. Coming out in the second half with the same attitude was rewarded with the third goal quite early – taking the game out of Leicester’s reach.

The race for fourth – West Ham keeping the rest on their toes

More from Premier League

Normally by now, West Ham would have fallen off and out of the race already, or possibly be fighting to beat relegation.

But thanks to a massive improvement all around the pitch, they are fighting for a spot high up the table. Another contributing factor? One small smart and sensible piece of business during the January window, which was signing Lingard.

At the time of writing this, there are only six points separating third-placed Leicester City and six-placed Liverpool, with 21 points left to play for over the final few games.

If Moyes can continue to get the best out of the Englishman and he keeps scoring for them, they could easily overjump Leicester.

FPL managers who own him are smiling – Keep Jesse Lingard scoring

He has scored eight goals in nine Premier League starts for West Ham. In all of the games he has scored, they have not lost, mostly winning and drawing only a single one of them.

In their last six games, they have only suffered one defeat – this is the only game he did not score in and that was against the current league leaders, Manchester City.

After beating the Foxes on Sunday, there is only one point that separates them. The Hammers have already debunked the notion that this is a fluke run and have proven they got the goods to end the season in a top-four spot.
