Premier League: Are Liverpool well-equipped to take on an unbeaten Chelsea side?
A must-win top-six showdown approaches with Chelsea travelling to Anfield for a meeting with Liverpool. Do the Reds have the tools to beat the Blues?
A team recently returning to winning ways encounters a team who is without a defeat in their last seven Premier League outings since undergoing a managerial change. Despite displaying the complete opposite in form in recent matchdays, both clubs still fight for the same honours.
Thanks to Wednesday night’s dropped points by Manchester United and Leicester City, and West Ham dropping points over the weekend past, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton stand good chances of closing their point-gap with victories in the respective matchups.

For Jurgen Klopp results on the road have been kinder than those at Anfield – the once upon a time fortress. Their last victory at the Merseyside venue came last year December against Spurs.
Since then there have been six fixtures played on home soil – two draws and the other four losses. Those defeats were their last four home outings.
The biggest problem in their decline has been their goalscoring form. They’ve only managed two goals in the last six Anfield losses while conceding an unheard-of nine goals.
It is quite straightforward as to why the former champs have only collected six points from their last 18 up for offer. But they will be hoping that is all about to change as they welcome back a couple of influential players from injury.
Will the game play into Chelsea’s favour?
Tuchel has been working tirelessly on the defensive issues at the back – most notably you can see the improvements in their results. They’ve only conceded two EPL goals in the time he has been at Stamford Bridge (six games).
This will have his German counterpart worried and fearing for the worst – that is playing a team who will soak up all their attacking waves and hit them on the counter.
The Blues results have been low-scoring affairs mostly, with one or two goals satisfying enough as the three points are all that matter to Thomas Tuchel at this time.
You can expect more of the same when the West Londoners square off against the soon to be ex-Premier League champions.
Predicted Starting XI’s for Liverpool and Chelsea
For the predicted Liverpool starting XI check out our partners over at Rush The Kop. They have an interesting take on the first 11 with the returning Fabinho and Diogo Jota available for team selection.
Klopp will be thinking, straight out of the blocks with the injury comebacks or, stick to the winning formula from Sunday’s first victory in five Premier League games?

In the travelling team’s selection, the focus will be out in front – and who will be the player picked to lead the line. Will it be Olivier Giroud; will it be Timo Werner… Could it perhaps be both hitmen?
His defensive choices have pretty remained the same. Even if we were to see Marcos Alonso, it wouldn’t come as a surprise – as the fullback enjoys another lifeline at Stamford Bridge.

Side notes in Liverpool vs Chelsea
Ironically, the novelty of this fixture has increased following the inclusion of Chelsea’s German boss, Thomas Tuchel.
Liverpool’s German Jurgen Klopp and Tuchel both took the reigns at Borussia Dortmund – the Chelsea manager took over at BVB from the Liverpool man back in 2015.
Do they have the same style of play? Well, they certainly have the potential to entertain us all, neutrals or not. They have in the past, proven that when they meet, they can have us on the edge of our set.
The last meetings between the pair were in the Champions League while Thomas was with PSG. The duo had the chance of hosting each other in the group stages with the Reds going all the way to the final where they claimed their sixth European title.
Chelsea and Liverpool both have an opening to overjump the Hammers before the weekend if any of them can collect the three points up for grabs. All to play for these English giants.
Liverpool will have a bit of confidence but will still have their tails between their legs. The Blues, on the hand, will be licking their lips and relishing the chance to get the mighty Reds while they try to recover from the losing streak they endure at Anfield.
