All the hype before kickoff but no deadly blow after 90 minutes of football played between Chelsea and Manchester United. Did the Blues show too much respect to the visitors?
Thomas Tuchel keeps his unbeaten record intact – stretching his record to eight games without defeat in the Premier League. While the Blues hold steady in their search for Champions League football, Man United keeps their fantastic undefeated record on the road, with them 20 games without a loss away from home.
The point shared between the two was enough to see United stay in second place while Chelsea stays grounded in fifth, a point behind West Ham.

The much anticipated top-6 showdown between Chelsea and Manchester United – more hype than anything else
A 0-0 result in a top-6 clash will never be a satisfying result especially when you have the chance to take advantage of teams dropping points fighting for the same spots.
The encounter was evenly matched with both teams having a couple of chances to take the lead. For Tuchel’s men to allow United in on goal enough times to hit 11 shots at goal was way too much, considering Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactics to sit back and hit teams on the counter.
Chelsea’s firepower and attacking strengths should have been exploited by the manager, but being compact and keeping a clean sheet appeared to be the priority for both him and Ole.
United can be happy with the result knowing Leicester City lost their clash against Arsenal 2-1. Chelsea needs to worry as they now allowed Liverpool and others a shot at closing the point gap.
All-in-all with what is left to review on the Stamford Bridge meeting is that it was actually quite boring. The most exciting and biggest talking point coming from this top-6 draw was the penalty that was not given to Man United.
Top takeaways from Chelsea’s draw with Manchester United
- Tuchel has made Chelsea a better side defensively – They’ve only conceded two in his time at the Bridge
- Bruno Fernandes still struggles against any of the big six – his biggest highlight against a top-four/six rival, a free-kick against the Reds in the FA Cup.
- Top four is still there for the taking. Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton and Spurs are still in the race – there are six points that separate fourth-placed Hammers and eighth-placed Spurs
- Chelsea is still unable to beat United with them winning one game of their last six against Man United
- The most notable takeaway from this one, Man United are far from bringing the league title back to Old Trafford. They are having one of their best seasons in recent years but cannot beat their neighbouring rivals.
- United is the only team not to beat Liverpool at Anfield while Burnley, Brighton, Manchester City and Everton were all able to take all the points home with them in their respective fixtures against Liverpool at Anfield.
