It appears Bayern Munich has won the race for the hot prospect Dayot Upamecano. The defender has chosen to stay put in the Bundesliga rather than move to the English Premier League.

It is being widely reported that Bayern Munich have made their move for RB Leipzig’s most valuable player at the moment, Dayot Upamecano.

The deal with the Bavarians is said to be a five-year contract with them happy to pay his release clause of €42.5 million. It is being further stated that the player will join them in the summer.

No surprise in Dayot Upamecano’s Bayern Munich decision

For months Dayot Upamecano was linked to Premier League clubs, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and other European giants.

The Blues of London were working hard to reach an agreement for the defender and became the hot favourites over the last couple of weeks. Man United pulled out of the race while the Merseysiders fell behind and waited too long to make an official bid for him.

More from Transfers and Rumors

Surprise, no surprise that one of Europe’s most wanted talents preferred a move to the league leaders in Germany. They were searching for a replacement for David Alaba and have found the perfect candidate for the job in Dayot.

He was in a contract standoff with the club, with them failing to meet on a contract extension. This leaves him as a free agent at the end of the season and free to negotiate a deal with a potential suitor as of January.

Now Alaba looks poised to join Real Madrid but an official announcement is yet to be made by the club or player. Other than Madrid, Liverpool are reportedly keen on bringing him to Anfield if they can highjack his move to the Spanish capital.

This in return settles the transfer saga that many expected to last until the summer transfer window. Bayern made sure they won the Upamecano race before the end of the season, where there would be the inevitable bidding war for the player.

Following the news of Upamecano’s choice to remain in Munich, Chelsea and Liverpool will turn their attention to his defensive partner, Ibrahima Konaté. To date, both centre-backs have enjoyed good seasons with Leipzig.
