Worst Premier League signings so far of the 2020-2021 season
When Premier League clubs are about to sign a new player, there are always big expectations for the new acquisition.
Sometimes, these acquisitions do not turn out how they were expected to. In this article, you’ll see the signings that have disappointed the most in the Premier League this season so far.
Donny van de Beek £39million – Ajax to Man United
The Dutch player had some sensational seasons with Ajax prior to his move, one of it was where he reached the Champions League semifinal in 2018-2019. He decided to stay one more year at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, even though he had some great offers from clubs like Real Madrid.
Surprisingly, he decided to sign for Manchester United in the 2020-2021 season. It was a bit unexpected since Real Madrid was very interested in him and the Red Devils did not really need him, one of the reasons for his failure this season.

Solksjaer did not need another midfielder, the Red Devils already have some good players like Fred, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, and Bruno Fernandes.
All four of them have been playing at Old Trafford for a while now and have played at a good level, making it harder for van de Beek to make the starting lineup.
He has not had the opportunity to have some real playing time regularly. Donny has started just two EPL games and was used as a substitute for another ten games, making it just 12 games played out of 22.
That’s not much playing time for the Dutch international. He has only scored one goal and one assist so far this season in red.
He has also come up against one of the best midfielders in the league, Bruno Fernandes, who has been playing at an amazing level. Solksjaer would need to play van de Beek more because many clubs are still interested in him and he is hungry to get playing time in order to get a national team call up.
Due to him being a signing that was never required by the club, The Top Flight rates him as the Premier League’s second-worst transfer of the summer.
Willian free transfer – Chelsea to Arsenal
Many fans have watched Willian during his years at Chelsea where he was one of the best wide players in the league. Now, he has played at a very lower level and is not even close to the level he reached while at Stamford Bridge.
Willian was supposed to sign at the beginning of the season with Barcelona but a deal was not close and he ended up at the Emirates Stadium. Fans in North London were very excited to see one of the best players from a rival Premier League team sign for them.
He has not performed well the 16 games he’s played. He started twelve, being substituted in four, and being left on the bench in three. He has not scored a single goal this season and has made as little as three assists.
This is probably the worst signing of the season since the expectations for the Brazilian winger were very high and he has not delivered for the club and the fans since the opening day of the EPL where he collected all and the only assists for the season.
He does not have much time to show his talent at the Emirates since he is already 32 years old and if he keeps performing like this his time in North London will end shortly.
There have been some more bad signings this season but these two players are above all of them since they have not played even close to the word “well”.
