Liverpool are in a frantic search to pull off a centre-back deal with about 24 hours left before the January window closes.

There are a lot of names being thrown around and a number of defensive options who are in talks with the Anfield side. This has been confirmed by Liverpool’s insider James Pearce.

Talking in a one-on-one on Football Daily, the journalist said it be very surprising if no signing was made before the deadline, February 1st.

The club has been forced to act in the transfer market with the final straw pulled when they reported that both Joel Matip and Fabinho were out injured. The latter missed the Reds’ midweek 3-1 victory over Tottenham.

The former made the starting lineup, partnering with Jordan Henderson at centre-back. At the halftime break, he was replaced after sustaining what the manager Jurgen Klopp believed to be an ankle injury.

The club goes up against West Ham later today, Sunday, and have to use one of Rhys Williams or Nathaniel Phillips alongside the club captain.

Barring this fixture, the champions have gone almost whole season having a midfielder paired with a centre-back. As per news out of the locker room, it will be Nat partnering Hendo for their Matchday 21 encounter with the Hammers.

Phillips’ first Premier League start was against West Ham and he put in a massive Man of the Match performance.

Centre-back options linked with a possible Liverpool move

  1. Torino – Gleison Bremer
  2. Wolverhampton Wanderers – Romain Saïss

Either of these players will join on a short-term loan deal – or at least they hope to get a good deal in a pressing situation. For now, when they go up against the Hammers, they will have to do with one of their reserve players to help out at the back.
