After moving on from Sebastien Haller, depth is needed in a new West Ham forward. Haller left the club and made the move over to Ajax after not finding much success in the Premier League.

With Michail Antonio as the top choice at center forward, it looks like David Moyes wants reinforcements. There are a number of names being linked with the club at the moment. But which of them seems most likely to be brought in before the January transfer window closes.

Alassane Pléa – Borussia Mönchengladbach

The first forward option that has been linked to West Ham in recent weeks is Alassane Pléa. He is currently playing for Borussia M’Gladbach in the German Bundesliga.

Pléa should be entering his prime at 27 years of age, and could be a longer-term option for West Ham. So far, he has had a bit of an up and down season. In the Champions League Pléa has been able to notch 5 goals and 4 assists in only 6 appearances.

This shows he definitely has the ability to play at the top level. But in his league play he has only been able to score twice in 14 appearances. It’s possible that a move to West Ham could unlock Pléa’s full potential.

Joshua King – Bournemouth

Joshua King is another name mentioned as a new West Ham forward option. King currently plays in the Championship with Bournemouth and has had a rough start to the year. He currently has 3 goals in his last 13 appearances.

So why is West Ham interested in King as he struggles in the Championship? Most likely that is because he has pretty significant Premier League experience.

King had spent the previous 5 seasons with the Cherries in the Premier League and was a pretty decent goalscorer. This is a low-risk option if West Ham just wants someone else who can vie for playing time with Antonio.

Hwang Hee-Chan

Hwang Hee-Chan has been a hot target for many clubs over the past year. After his impressive season with RB Salzburg, he eventually made the move to RB Leipzig. But so far life in the Bundesliga hasn’t gone well for Hee-Chan.

So far he only has 1 goal in 9 appearances for Leipzig. But his prolific goalscoring form last year has kept teams interested. The Hammers may decide to make a move before the end of the transfer window on a short-term deal.

This would benefit West Ham and David Moyes by giving them more depth in attack. It would also potentially benefit Leipzig if Hee-Chan can recapture his scoring prowess. This is probably the most likely deal for a new West Ham forward.
