West Ham have secured the services of out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard. He will stay with the East London club until the end of the season.
The Hammers were one of the last English top-flight teams to join the race for Jesse Lingard but come out as the victors after finally finding an agreement with Man United.
After falling further and further down in the pecking order, it was only matter of a time before he made a switch to a new club. The loan deal is said to be upwards of £3m. No talks of an option to buy are said to be attached.
The Hammers have agreed to pay his full wages and the full loan amount requested by the Old Trafford side – this was the sticking point but appears to be behind them now.
"West Ham have agreed a deal to sign Jesse Lingard on loan from Man Utd for the rest of the season. The total cost of a potential deal is thought to be more than £3m, taking into account the loan fee and Lingard’s wages.West Ham have now offered the full £1.5m loan fee – plus Lingard’s wages – to get him on loan for the rest of the season, but they have still to hear back from Man Utd. At first, as previously said in other write-ups on the Jesse saga, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the United board were only willing to listen to offers abroad, outside of England. That or, he would stay put with the manager stating in the past the attacking midfielder is still important to him and the club.
However, just a few weeks into the January transfer window and still no Premier League appearances for the now West Ham player, more teams came into mention – most of them being English clubs.
Who is predicting a Jesse Lingard career revival at West Ham United?
It must be a relief for him finally to get a chance at more and regular first-team minutes – especially in a team punching way about their weight this season.
East London has been filled with more joyous occasions this term with West Ham currently in the top-six of the EPL standings. David Moyes was in need of strengthening his squad, with numbers in personnel quite low in certain areas.
Lingard will not come in and spectate like has over the past couple of seasons in Manchester. A move was begging and to revive his career, the London Stadium could be just the place to recapture the form that saw dance celebrations uncapped.
If he gets anywhere close to his best, a EURO 2021 call-up is quite possible. Gareth Southgate was particularly fond of using Lingard when the Englishman was a regular for the national team.
Despite the arrival of Lingard the club needs to work on the frontline. They are in need of an extra attacker to challenge Michail Antonio for his spot leading the West Ham line.
