The race to sign David Alaba from Bayern Munich has run its course. Real Madrid have reached an agreement with the player’s entourage.

The first day of the week brought some fantastic news forth for Real Madrid fans. They have agreed to sign Bayern Munich’s world-class defender, David Alaba, on a four-year deal.

The player will become a Galáctico at the end of the season on a free transfer. He was free to talk to any club across Europe once he reached the final six months of his current deal – which was at the start of January.

The race was on for David Alaba

When news first broke about Alaba, there were several teams attempting to get his signature. The two clubs who were leading the pack was his potential new suitors Real and next-in-line, Liverpool.

It was said the Reds were prepared to match Madrid’s offer which was a €10m-per-year deal, as they were ready to go toe-to-toe with them for the highly-rated, versatile defender.

Juventus were also keen on acquiring his services but would have failed to compare to the La Liga champs and Premier Leauge champs’ proposal. Their ultimate goal was to sign one of Europe’s best on a free.

"The Liverpool hierarchy are said to have tabled a £9m-a-year contract (€10m) for Bayern Munich’s David Alaba. The defender reached the final six months of his current deal and is now free to talk to any team as he gets ready to become a free agent at the end of this season. But a transfer to Anfield for the Austrian is far from being completed with Real Madrid offering him the same deal, hoping he will join the La Liga champions over the Premier League champions. The other club said to be in for the soon to be free agent is Juventus. The Old Lady has been notoriously good at adding players to their roster on a free transfer. Emre Can, Aaron Ramsey, Sami Khedira, Andrea Pirlo and Paul Pogba are just a handful of footballers they’ve employed on a free.

Unfortunately, they will have to turn their attention elsewhere with him soon to be a Real Madrid star in the upcoming season. So will Liverpool, who apparently pulled out of the race. Or so they say.

Bayern Munich tried to keep him but were never going to improve their final offer

The Bavarians made many attempts to tie him down with a contract extension but to no avail. He at one point stated he wanted to stay put at the Allianz Arena, giving the German giants belief a deal could still be struck.

Their last-ditch attempt in November, which was a 5-year extension, was withdrawn because of them finally giving up hope on him staying.

He has made 15 appearances for Bayern this season, starting 14 of the 15 games he’s played. He has only scored one goal so far with them leading the pack in the Bundesliga.
