Liverpool’s plan for incomings during January seems unchanged and looks as if they will go into the second half of the season with no new names.

Several days ago Liverpool supporters went into a frenzy in the belief the club was about to sign Sven Botman from Lille. The Anfield faithful had the name “Botman” trending after they felt he, his agent, and James Pearce did too many things suspiciously on social media to be called a coincidence.

Cryptic messages on his story, while Pearce started following, some serious CSI stuff by the “Red Army” who let’s be honest, are extremely worried their Premier League title triumph was a one-off success.

These hopes sadly have been crushed for the time being by Fabrizio Romano who not only said that talks have not commenced by the two clubs but also that players are two-minded about coming to Anfield in fear of not being able to make the first team now and in the future.

Possible transfers fear once Klopp’s main characters are fit and ready to play, chances of regular action will become scarce. The Reds’ boss has also made it apparent that there is no need for the club to make transfers, having seen his players handle and deal with this season’s injury mayhem well enough.

Liverpool are in need of a transfer in January

The Reds are one Fabinho injury away from a Henderson and Philippes/Williams partnership. A defender transfer for them is the difference between a title race or a top-four challenge.

The Reds found it hard to break down an Aston Villa team filled up of U23’s and let in a 17-year-old Louie Barry in on goal.

A Fabinho-William’s partnership was again unable to keep a clean sheet. This is enough evidence they need work done in January.

Joel Matip has been present during the season but his attendance has been intermittent due to a bad run of injury problems. Arguably Liverpool’s second-best defender behind Virgil van Dijk but always a doubt.

With him out more often than not should cause enough concern for Liverpool’s board to consider doing work in the market at the earliest time possible. The club does however remain hopeful a VVD return is on the cards before the season ends.

The Anfield side has their season riding on a lot of hope. Is it worth the risk? Many things for the champions of England to consider going into the next half of the season.

Should Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp do business in the winter window? If yes, where should they add new names?
