Top 6 Premier League Manager Report Card
With almost half of the current Premier League season already gone; how have the managers of the usual “Top 6” clubs fared? Our Premier League Manager grading:
Jürgen Klopp
Liverpool is currently right at the top of the league. A very enviable spot to be in; they have done a good job of consistently getting points in a tough season. Missing Van Dijk for a large period of time has definitely hurt the team defensively.
But at this point in the season, it’s hard to find too much wrong with a team that is still turning in solid performances. Klopp has been great in navigating Liverpool in these tough times. He should continue to be regarded as one of the best managers in the world.
Grade: A
Pep Guardiola

As of late, Manchester City seems to be trending upwards. There was some worrying form for City to start off the season but now that Rúben Dias and John Stones have formed a solid partnership, they look strong.
Dias has taken control of the backline and looks to be a fantastic summer signing. Guardiola has also done a fine job managing his attack. With Agüero and Gabriel Jesus injured for most of the season, he has had to experiment with Ferran Torres at striker.
Guardiola has this team moving in the right direction. It’s yet to be seen whether or not that will be enough for another Premier League title.
Grade: A-
Ole Gunnar Solksjær
Is it too early to say that Manchester United is looking like their old selves? They have a chance to move into first place in the near future, as early as Tuesday when they travel to Turf Moor where they take on Burnley.
Ole has been terrific this season. United have been orchestrating a strong season and could push on for further glory. With Bruno Fernandes looking like a top midfielder anything is possible.
Grade: A
Frank Lampard
With all of the money that was spent over the past year, expectations have been high for Chelsea. It’s safe to say that they haven’t been living up to those expectations. Chelsea are currently in ninth place and have been in very poor form.
Although Lampard would seem to be a candidate to be sacked, I don’t think he will be. With the sheer number of new faces that were brought in; it was going to be tough to get everyone on the same page.
Grade: C
José Mourinho
Tottenham currently finds themselves in fourth place. They have been hovering around the top spots for most of the season. Led by Harry Kane, Tottenham are looking to push on for a title. Can Mourinho actually lead them to one?
With some reinforcements in the January transfer window, he definitely can. Without any runaway leaders, it really feels like any team can win it this season. Mourinho has done a great job in keeping Tottenham within striking distance of first.
Grade: B+
Mikel Arteta
This has not been a good season for Arsenal. In Arteta’s first full season, he has struggled to truly get the best out of his players. It seems like they are overmatched in most games.
There is definitely still time for Arteta to right the ship with no runaway leaders. But at this point in time, it’s hard to have hope in this current team. With loads of potential on the team, hopefully, Arteta can turn this season around.
