Mesut Ozil’s omission from Arsenal’s Premier League squad and Europa League squad was enough evidence to know the player’s time at the Emirates was coming to an end.

According to recent reports, Mesut Ozil, Arsenal’s world-class playmaker is set to leave in January. The German was sidelined by his manager, Mikel Arteta, for the first half of the season.

As per Goal.com and others, he will join Fenerbahce in the upcoming days. The 32-year-old creative player has signed a three-year deal with the Turkish outfit. It is also being said that Ozil turned down an approach from MLS outfit, DC United.

In conflicting reports, they mention there are more clubs interested in his signature and talks with them are still ongoing.

The World Cup winner will leave the Gunners after his eight-year stay in North London. The player was a key figure under Arsene Wenger and his link-up play with Alexis Sanchez was mouth-watering.

Every Arsenal fan literally waited for the weekend to see the Ozil-Sanchez link-up. Alexis Sanchez left in search of greener pastures in 2018 whereas Mesut Ozil displayed loyalty and opted to stay put.

More from Arsenal

It wasn’t the toughest decision in the world after being named Arsenal’s best earner when renewing his contract, making £350,000-per-week at the club.

The player fell down in the pecking order since the arrival of Unai Emery. However, Mikel Arteta’s appointment in 2019 gave the player a chance to rejuvenate his career.

This was short-lived and he couldn’t make it into the 25-men Premier League and Europa League squad for the current campaign.

The fans pressurized the club to allow Mesut back into the squad when Arsenal found themselves in a relegation battle.

Sadly it was not meant to be for the German. The phenomenal rise of Emile-Smith Rowe spelled certain doom on Ozil’s revival at the Emirates.

The player was last seen on the bench for Arsenal against Southampton last season. Since then, he was demoted to a spectator role, only allowed to train and keep sharp while cheering on what will soon be his ex-teammates.

This move needs to happen for all parties involved. A fresh start for Ozil now as he reaches the twilight era of his playing career and the Gunners need to get the funding for fresh faces needed to help end strong after a poor start.

He has had a stellar career while in North London and was arguably the best playmaker the Premier League had seen in the modern-day game.

His 70 assists and 43 goals in 247 Premier League appearances is a clear indication of the impact he had on the game and the league.

Despite doing everything for the club, a baller like Mesut Ozil is not getting the exit that he deserves. Did his loyalty to the club and Wenger cost him at the end? Let us know your opinion below.
