With game time hard to come by for the Arsenal defender, Sead Kolasinac has opted to move out of North London to get some regular minutes.

This is that time of year where all clubs will start to rethink their strategy based on their standings in Premier League table.

In a year of surprises, the strong contenders for the English Premier League title are last season strugglers Everton and Aston Villa whereas Arsenal finds themselves in the relegation dogfight.

Ahead of the January transfer window, Mikel Arteta and the board has things to figure out. More importantly, the club is set to clear out the deadwood. In their pursuit of freeing up wages, the Gunners have decided to send their center-back Sead Kolasinac on loan to German outfit, Schalke.

More from Arsenal

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bosnia and Herzegovina international Sead Kolasinac is set to join Schalke on a loan deal for the rest of the season.

With Arteta preferring to go with Rob Holding, Pablo Mari and Gabriel Maghalaes at the back, Kolasinac is finding first-team minutes hard to come by.

The player has been limited to domestic cups and Europa League games, featuring only once in the Premier League.

With Euro 2021 fast approaching, the player wants to move away from North London for regular first-team minutes in order to make the national side.

Tweeting the transfer update, Fabrizio Romano mentioned:

"Sead Kolasinac has signed his contract as new Schalke player on loan from Arsenal. Official and confirmed"

The player was linked with another Bundesliga outfit, Bayer Leverkusen, in the summer transfer window. However, the deal collapsed on the 11th-hour as both clubs couldn’t agree on a deal. The salary of the player will be borne by both the clubs equally.

Since his move to the Emirates under Arsene Wenger, Sead Kolasinac was the first-choice center-back for Arsenal. Over the course of the last three seasons, he has featured 104 times across all competitions for Arsenal with 11 assists and four goals to his name.

Arsenal are set to miss the services of a leader at the back in this time of crisis. They currently lay 13th in the league standings and are slowly working their way back up the ladder.

Hopefully, with the release of fringe players, they can free up some funds to do work in more pressing areas.
