Chelsea ends Matchday 14 in style as they bounce back to winning ways in a 3-0 win over West Ham United. The only concern, Ben Chilwell hobbling off the pitch.

Ben Chilwell limping off the pitch 10 minutes into the game against West Ham was not what Frank Lampard and Chelsea wanted to see after already losing their other fullback Reece James to an injury layoff prior to kickoff.

The Blues got back to winning ways after going two games without any points collected in the Premier League. Three goals scored and a clean sheet picked up – making it a convincing victory against the Hammers. They now sit in fifth place in the Premier League standings, six points off the leaders Liverpool.

More from Chelsea

Lampard’s side went up early in the first half through a towering Thiago Silva header. No goals were scored for about 68 minutes, giving the Hammers the impression they could still get something from the encounter, however, a late brace by Tammy Abraham secured all the points for Chelsea.

The manager was impressed by his boys’ character shown to get back on the winning horse, as well as happy with the work rate displayed by the outfielders in blue.

Lampard speaking about his team’s performance:

"The performance was really good against a team with the quality of West Ham and what they’re doing at the moment. Our defensive game was great. I wasn’t sure it would be a beautiful game because there was a bit of pressure today and they’re a good side but the lads dealt with that side of it really well."

Ben Chilwell injury update

Afore the opening goal celebrations, was where the only concern for Chelsae came. Chilwell went in for a challenge on Jarrod Bowen and came out second best.

No malice intended by both players but an awkward landing for Chilwell deemed him unfit to carry on with the rest of the game after rolling/turning his ankle.

The manager confirmed after their victory, Chilwell will be a doubt for the crucial Arsenal encounter coming on Saturday evening. The club will wait until the scan reveals the severity of the damage on his ankle to determine the length of his time on the sideline.

Lampard on Chilwell:

"I expect he (Chilwell) will be doubtful for Arsenal. He turned his ankle, tried to carry on but it was too painful so we’ll have a scan or whatever tomorrow and try to see how bad he is.Reece and Chilly have been doing really well so we hope both their injuries are not too bad and they’ll be in and around those two games over Christmas. They have already lost Reece James to an on-going knee injury which he was playing through over the last couple of games. Despite the problem, James has been one of the best players at Stamford Bridge, if not, their best.

It will be a massive blow to lose both fullbacks to long spells on the sideline ahead of a busy festive period. With Monday’s 3-0 win over West Ham in the bag, the Blues of London have now kept six clean sheets already.

They are well en route to bettering last season’s total of nine clean sheets but it could be a bit more difficult if they lose both of their first-choice fullbacks to long-term injuries.
