Transfer News: Arsenal to miss out on top midfielder target in January
By Varun Aithal
After finding themselves in the bottom six, Arsenal’s having a tough time signing their top transfer targets. Will January be kind to the Gunners?
It has been a disastrous time for the North London outfit in the Premier League as the club find themselves in 15th place with 13 points to their name. Arsenal has found it challenging to score goals and are winless in the last four games.
Barring a goalless draw against Leeds United, the club has accumulated no point in the last two English top-flight games. With the Gunners finding difficulty in front of goal, transfers during January has become a priority.
Sadly they are off to a slow start in acquiring their rumored targets. According to recent reports, the Gunners are set to miss on RB Salzburg’s midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who will be joining German outfit, RB Leipzig.

The two Red Bull clubs have agreed on a fee for the wonderkid said to be above €25 million. As per Fabrizio Romano, the announcement of the deal might be done before Christmas at the earliest.
The left-winger has a release clause of €25 million and the performances by the Hungarian international attracted interests from many top teams across Europe.
Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal were all set to battle it out for the player in the January transfer window, however, the race seems to be over before it even started with RB Leipzig acquiring the services of the player.
The winger/midfielder is set to sign a five-year contract with his new Red Bull club after Salzburg accepted a fee of €25m. Szoboszlai impressed the footballing world with his performances for both club and country.
For the season so far, the player has 11 G/A in 15 starts for the Austrian side. Also, he caught the attention of big clubs with an injury-time winner against Iceland in the Euro 2021 Qualifiers.
In England, Arsenal are struggling to create and score goals. The Emirates outfit have been poor when trying to score from open play. Though they remain unbeaten in Europe, the struggle in the Premier League is real.
The club has scored as little as 10 goals in 11 games which is just under a goal per game. The absence of a midfielder of Mesut Ozil‘s qualities in the squad has affected Mikel Arteta in the wrong way.
A search for a playmaker is important to him keeping his job at the club. This is a major setback for Arsenal who needs to inject some world-class quality in front of goal, whether it be a creative player or a prolific goalscorer.
