Sunday night’s Premier League action brought forward another big scare when two players collided with each other in the Arsenal and Wolves encounter.

Wolverhampton Wanderers trip to the Emirates came with great reward but also great sacrifice. A collision of heads involving Arsenal defender David Luiz and Wolves’ striker Raul Jimenez saw the pair get removed early from the pitch.

The knock was so intense it could be heard on the tele while watching it live and when watching the reply of the incident. The conflict transpired in the opening 15 minutes of the first half.

More from Premier League

Jimenez was taken off the pitch immediately on a stretcher while Luiz tried to be brave for his team and was strapped up by the medic and continued for the rest of the first half. At halftime though, the Gunners’ defender was substituted and replaced by Rob Holding.

With all the injury madness going on, Wolves still managed to best their hosts on the night, winning the fixture 2-1. Sadly, the result has been overshadowed by the dangerous head-to-head clash between the duo.

All is well now thankfully

Everybody involved has come out and spoken about the experience and are said to be in good health. Raul Jimenez suffered a fractured skull but is in good spirit following an operation on the head.

The player took to social media to thank everybody for their best wishes and let it be known he can’t wait to run out onto the pitch again, as he takes the road to recovery.

"Thanks for your support messages. I will be under observation and I hope to be to return to the pitch soon."

Arsenal’s Luiz is reported to be back in training but will miss their midweek Europa League clash against Rapid Vienna. He could make Sunday’s all-important North London derby against league leaders, Tottenham and will be monitored closely.

The head-on collision has sparked a massive debate and raised major concern for all players. Managers have come forward suggesting that a concussion substitution makes sense and have others querying what’s the protocol for such situations.

Pep Guardiola asking for better clarity on the subject:

"This is the most important thing because with head injuries you have to be careful. I don’t know the protocols, some of them say you have to be nearly out (unconscious), some of them say no so it should be clear.Because head injuries are so dangerous but hopefully they (Luiz and Jimenez) are doing well. The debate surrounding the subject comes about more because of David Luiz staying on the pitch rather than leaving early to be further examed before things got worse. Players’ safety has always come first and this is another matter that needs to be addressed urgently.

Raul Jimenez will miss Wolves’ trip to Anfield where they take on a crippled Liverpool side.

What do you think should be the protocol for concussions?
