Could this finally be the deadline date that we get to see fans re-introduced back into the game in English Premier League football?

One of the most important aspects of the Premier League has been missing since day one of the pandemic that swept the globe. Following the reinstatement of football across Europe and the world, there have only been a few places that have allowed supporters back into stadiums for matchdays.

In England, the situation has been touch and go, with them unable to hold down a set return date. At first, it was September but that was quite premature – and Then it was October, a quite realistic timeframe. Sadly, high COVID spikes in different regions around England pushed the supporters’ welcome back party further back.

It became so bad over the change from autumn to winter that a second nationwide lockdown was issued by England’s prime minister, Boris Johnson. More intense restrictions were put in place as it was deemed by Sage scientists that the previous measures were not strong enough.

The government announced that there would be tiers in place and some would be tougher than others. Rather understandable with research showing during winter periods the spikes of the coronavirus is greater and more worrisome.

Since then the best news broke from the PM Johnson, the lockdown should come to an as early as December and surprise, surprise, fans could be allowed back into stadiums as of the 2nd of next month. However, a lot of rules will be applied to the comeback party which will fit in with the restrictions set in different regions by the government.

"Supporters will be permitted to attend events in stadiums in England when the national lockdown ends on December 2, says Boris Johnson."

More from Premier League

Outdoor rules will differ from indoor rules. Tier 1 being allowed more than tier 2, and 2 being allowed more than tier 3 — which will, unfortunately, still be operating behind closed doors until further instructions.

The highest tier will start with 4,000 spectators or half of the actual venue’s capacity. The next total will be for tier 2 and will be stopped at 2000 capacity. And the most important of them all… Outdoor grassroots sports will thankfully return as well.

The kids must play! However, everything is all dependent on the risk and if it is too high or not.

"Stadiums in tier 1 will be permitted to hold up to 4,000 spectators; grounds in tier 2 can welcome up to 2,000 fans; grounds in tier 3 must continue to hold events behind closed doors; outdoor grassroots sport also allowed to resume in England.Outdoor stadiums in tier 2 areas – viewed to be high risk – can welcome up to 2,000 spectators or half of their maximum capacity, depending on which is fewer."

The PM made it quite clear this strict lockdown and second turn at an isolation period is because they want to try and make a safe transition from winter to spring.

As per Boris Johnson:

"The hard truth is that we are not there yet. We must get through winter without the virus spreading out of control. Our winter plan is designed to carry us safely to spring. (Via: Sky Sports)"

This news satisfies all clubs across England as well as all the supporters of each club. The former gets to recover some lost funds while the latter gets to scream loud and proudly for their respective clubs.

Fans are an instrumental part of the game that because it hasn’t returned, it has left the game dull and empty. The atmosphere, even with the implementation of crowd sound, has not been the same, to say the least.

Next. Liverpool doing what Man City has struggled to. dark

I for one, am more than excited that December 2 could really be the day we back to what we consider as normal.
