What a match to kick off the next matchday of the Premier League. Aston Villa welcomes Leeds United in some Friday night football action.

Six matchdays into England’s domestic league and it has been far from the predictable show we’ve come to know in all its years. This weekend starts with the first bit of Friday night football and we have two exciting teams kicking off proceedings with Aston Villa entertaining Leeds United.

Before we get into the up and coming weekend of English football, let us take a trip backwards and discuss what’s happened since the opening day of the Premier League. Who has been the best, most shocking, and underwhelming?

Best three after five

There is no secret who the best English team has been out of the blocks. These teams have been punching above their weight and have pulled a Liverpool start over five games played. Like there are teams hitting above the bar set, there are also those totally all out of sorts.

1st Place Aston Villa: [P4; W4; D0; L0] + 1 Game in hand

The Villians are really taking the league by storm. No losses, beating two teams who finished in the top 10 last season and one of them being the champions Liverpool, who they hurt really bad in their defending campaign.

Villa has absolutely turned things around. They were recorded as the worst conceding team last season with 75 goals let in. This term, they’ve only let in two goals and kept three clean sheets. The best team after five games.

2nd Place Everton: [P5; W4; D1; L0]

What a start for the Blues of Merseyside, who now for the first time are sitting on top of their successful neighbours since the campaign started. They sit at the summit of the league and are extremely lucky to have no losses thus far.

Their most recent game back, a Merseyside derby, a stroke of luck on more than one occasion warranted them only a single point after winning all four of their opening fixtures prior. Seven goals scored and seven goals conceded, is the only reason why they sit second. If they’d collected all three points against Liverpool, they would undoubtedly be the team to beat this season.

3rd Best Liverpool: [P5; W3; D1; L1]

Yes, the champions are off to a start not as brilliant as their previous two campaigns but they have endured one of the toughest starts out of the usual big six. Despite a heavy 7-2 hammering by the hands of this season’s best team, they have done well in their askings.

In back-to-back games, they played two of the top six Chelsea and Arsenal, and in that order as well. They collected six points from the six up for grabs when facing who are supposed to be their closest title competitors.

The Reds along with Everton and Aston Villa are the only clubs to collect double digits before Matchday 6.

More from Premier League

The best and most surprising team takes on the most exciting team. Aston Villa welcomes Leeds United to Villa Park for a reminder of the Championship, where the two would meet normally before both making their way back to the big leagues.

The Whites, full of goals on either end of the pitch should find it difficult to breakdown Dean Smith’s defence, who have only let in two goals so far. Leeds have done well on their long-awaited return to the top flight, scoring at will and playing an attractive game of football in the process.

They sit in the top half of the table and are doing far better than their counterparts who were promoted with them. Marcelo Bielsa will have to do it without Kalvin Phillips, who has been a key figure for his side before getting injured.

Worst four after five

The worst of the lot actually dwells at the bottom of the log without any contest. Even bad would say they are extremely bad. The fight to beat the drop has already begun and the EPL teams involved are those expected to be there.

Fulham, Sheffield United, Burnley, and West Brom, have all failed miserably to collect points from any outing they’ve taken. The bottom three have only collected a point each, with Fulham and Sheffield picking up theirs just last weekend on Matchday 5.

A shock to the system to see the Blades in the mix of relegation talks. Chris Wilder’s men were predicted to be this bad last season but hit above the bar. Now it appears the loss of Dean Henderson has proven too much to cope without.
